California State University (CSU)

Generally speaking the application window for CSU campuses opens October 1 and runs through November 30. Impacted campuses may have different deadlines. Please check with individual campuses to verify application window.

University of California (UC)

The application window opens on October 1 and closes November 30.

California Community Colleges

Applications typically on a rolling basis. Apply by the semester before you hope to attend. Earlier is better.

Private Universities

Generally speaking applications are submitted during the fall of the senior year. October - November is typical. Some universities may admit on a rolling basis taking applications until they are full. Check with individual schools to assure that you are meeting their specific deadlines.

FAFSA/Cal Grant window - Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) runs from October 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

In order to be eligible for Cal Grants students must submit their FAFSA no later than March 2, 2019.

Testing window - SAT and/or ACT test results can be submitted to universities through the December test of the senior year.

San Diego State is an exception to that rule and will not accept test scores after the November test date.

4 year University Admission Requirements

A-G Subject Years Specifications

A. Social Science 2 years required Must include one year of US history and government.

B. English 4 years required Literature and/or composition courses are acceptable

C. Mathematics 3 years required 4 recommended

Courses acceptable include algebra I, algebra II, geometry, and Other advanced courses that require algebra and geometry as prerequisites. Computer Programming courses do not fulfill the math requirement.

D. Laboratory Science 2 years required 3 recommended

Must include one year of biological science and one year of physical science. Both must have a laboratory component.

E. Foreign Language 2 years required Must be the same language. (Subject to waiver for applicants

Demonstrating equivalent competence.)

F. Visual & Performing Arts

  • 1 year required Must be a year-long visual and performing art, dance, drama/theatre, or music. May complete two semester-long courses in the same discipline.

G. Electives 1 year required College preparatory courses selected from the areas listed above or other approved college preparatory a-g courses.
